The Mother of God "Hodegetria", which means She Who Shows the Way, is, by far, one of the most common iconographic depictions of the Theotokos. In this icon She holds Christ at Her side while pointing towards the Savior and showing the way for the salvation of mankind. The original of this particular icon is Athonite and resides at the Vatopedi monastery.
